National Close the Gap Day
For more than a decade, Australians from every corner of the country, show their support for health equality as a fundamental right by marking National Close the Gap Day on the third Thursday of March each year.
Did you know that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have a life expectancy to be 8.6 years lower than non-indigenous people? That First Nations People are 5 times more likely to suffer from diabetes? And that two thirds suffer from at least one chronic disease?
There is an extensive history of inequitable health access that burden First Nations Peoples disproportionately. Today we encourage you to get involved and share this information at work, home, in your communities, or schools. By shining a light on this inequity, we bring about the sharing of information, meaningful discouragement, and necessary changes that will improve the health equity for all First Nations Peoples.
