National Apology Day
Today marks the anniversary of the Apology to Australia’s Indigenous peoples in the House of Representatives by former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd for laws, policies and practices that have impacted our First Nations people, particularly the Stolen Generations. We look back with understanding and empathy for those vulnerable communities and families torn apart – for true apologies aren’t about right and wrong, they are steeped in a belief that our relationship, our ability to be compassionate and our ability to learn is far more important and for these reasons, we say sorry for the atrocities experienced by our Indigenous partners and apologise that they had to endure this.
